Eliot Ness versus Al Capone in Depression Chicago, narrated by Walter Winchell like a machine gun dispatch. Robert Stack as Ness, Neville Brand as a scarred Capone. Produced by Desi Arnaz at Desilu, it made violence a weekly spectacle and drew Italian American protests over gangster stereotyping. Won Robert Stack an Emmy. The noir look came from old Paramount crews.
