The Singing Detective
1986 | Drama | UK | Created by Dennis Potter
Overview
Philip Marlow, a psoriasis ridden crime writer, hallucinates 1950s musical numbers and noir plots from his hospital bed. Potter wrote memory, mother, and mercury poisoning into one structure. Michael Gambon in the role of his career. Six episodes, Baftas, and the most acclaimed television script ever written in many polls. The high water mark of tv authorship: one voice, total control.
